Curious about sheep camps? Why not visit one?

High-country sheep ranchers and their families will be on hand Aug. 5 at a sheep camp to show visitors their stock and describe their lifestyle, which is basically the same as it was 100 years ago.

Visitors can talk with up to three generations of a ranching family, learn about guard dogs and herd dogs and pet lambs.

There is no charge for the program, now in its 15th year, which runs from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management personnel also will be available for questions.

Information is available from Edna Mason at 944-2500.

A four-wheel-drive vehicle is required. From Silverton, go to Animas Forks then follow the road to Engineer Pass. The sheep camp is just east of the summit.
