Open house for those interested in growing, marketing crops

Participants in the Market Garden Incubator program at the Old Fort at Hesperus will be available from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday to chat with the public and potential farmers. The program directed by Fort Lewis College professor Beth LaShell teaches all phases of growing and marketing flowers, greens and root crops.

Participants take classroom instruction from January through March and do field training in April and May. Planting begins in April.

Ten participants, four in their second year, are enrolled this year. Applications for next year are available in October. Contact LaShell at 385-4574.

Visitors should go to the historic library at the Old Fort and follow the signs to the incubator fields.
