Rude bike riders want to have it both ways

There has been a lot written about bikes and autos. We, as car drivers, albeit not without fault, are asked to share the road, watch out in green areas and generally go the extra mile. On the other hand, more and more bike riders flaunt the rules, are rude, cavalier and expect to have it both ways, namely, all the rights of a pedestrian while ignoring all the rules of driving. I see it every day.

A case in point, with a twist, happened to me as a pedestrian at Main and 11th Street. I was on the south side of 11th heading west. I began to cross Main with nine seconds on the crosswalk timer, and I was hustling to cross when a biker came from my left, between stopped cars. I stopped as he went by me, through the red light and turned left.

I called to him that he had run the light (not to mention not yielding to a pedestrian). His answer: Tough! Makes you wonder.
