7 vie for Archuleta County judge spot

The 6th Judicial District Nominating Commission will review seven applicants for a vacancy on the Archuleta County Court.

The candidates are Paul Whistler of Durango and Samuel H. Cassidy, Gayle O. Dixon, Reid B. Kelly, Rae L. Randolph, Deborah R. Schulte and Kathleen M. Sullivan, all of Pagosa Springs.

The successful candidate will take the seat that is being vacated by the Hon. James E. Denvir, who has held the position since August 1995. Denvir’s retirement will begin Jan. 13, 2015, according to The Pagosa Springs Sun.

The Archuleta County judgeship is considered a part-time 55 percent position with an annual salary of $76,435. The initial provisional term of office is two years. If the judge is then retained by voters, the term of office is four years.

The application process is now closed, and the commission is accepting public comments until noon Aug. 7. Comments may be emailed to judicial.vacancies@judicial.state.co.us.
