Neither Brooke Kniffin nor Anne Mummery qualified for the finals at the Western Zone Senior Championships, but they took advantage of the lower elevation in Clovis, California, to record personal-best times.
Kniffin placed 35th in the 200-meter backstroke in 2 minutes, 29.35 seconds. She just missed a sectional meet cut in the 100-meter backstroke, swimming it in 1:08.95. Kniffin also swam the 100-meter freestyle in 1:02.92 and the 200-meter freestyle in 2:18.44.
Mummery swam the 200-meter backstroke in 2:31.4, the 200-meter freestyle in 2:15.9, the 100-meter freestyle in 1:02.78 and the 100-meter backstroke in 1:11.17. She didn’t qualify for the 100-meter butterfly field but swam in a time trial at the end of the meet and shaved four seconds off of her best time, completing the race in 1:14.46.
The swim club’s short-course season will begin Aug. 25.
