Train ride to commemorate life, times of Bruce Anderson

Tickets will raise money for nonprofit
Bruce Anderson celebrates the 75th anniversary of KIUP radio station in 2010.

Bruce Anderson loved trains, and he loved Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado. So it seems a perfect remembrance for friends and family to take a train ride to benefit the kids’ charity.

Anderson died Aug. 6 from complications of a severe stroke he had suffered almost three years earlier. He was known as a community volunteer extraordinaire, supporting numerous causes, but he was particularly passionate about causes benefiting young people.

“Bruce’s Last Train” will depart the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 24 bound for the Cascade Canyon wye, where passengers will enjoy food and share memories and photos.

Tickets are $59 plus the railroad’s 7 percent historical preservation fee, with half going to Big Brothers Big Sisters. They’re available by calling 247-2733 or (888) 872-4607.
