Highway 3 to undergo rockfall mitigation

The Colorado Department of Transportation will start rockfall mitigation Thursday on Colorado Highway 3. The south end of Highway 3 will be closed through mid-November for the work.

The work zone will be below the cliff face between the Highway 3 intersection with South Camino del Rio and the south end of Sawmill Road.

Access to the Rivergate complex and other Highway 3 businesses will be from the north.

The Carbon Junction trailhead with access to the Telegraph Trail System will be open, but parking will not be available there. Parking will be available farther south at the Big Canyon trailhead. A temporary roadside path will connect the two trailheads.

Work is expected to be finished in November, with a possibility of some continued work in 2015.

For more information about the project, call 759-1030 or visit www.coloradodot.info and click on the green cellphone icon in the upper right corner. Enter your information and choose “SH 3 Durango Rockfall” under the projects list.
