River trail is awesome; observe its etiquette

Recently, I had the opportunity to walk/bike the river trail, and I was pleasantly surprised by a few things.

I discovered the trail behind the Durango Mall is finished, and a local family rides the trail to get to and from the La Posta area to places downtown just because they want to cut down on pollution. I also was pleased with how the Whitewater Park turned out: both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Farther down, tucked away behind Burger King, was a quaint bookstore called White Rabbit Books & Curiosities and an ice-cream vendor that had delicious ice cream! I recommend visiting both on a Sunday stroll.

While I have found these wonderful surprises, I was disappointed by the bicyclists. Many bicyclists will let you know that they are going to pass you, yet the majority of them do not. I feel some are locals, and others look like they are visitors to our area. As someone who uses this trail, I would like to suggest that everyone use bicycle-path etiquette and visitors told about these kindnesses when they rent/borrow bikes.

The river trail is an awesome feature of Durango, and I invite everyone to come enjoy it.
