Education series about radon comes to an end

The completion of a radon education program will be marked Tuesday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds.

The sponsoring Four Corners Office for Resource Efficiency and Colorado State University Cooperative Extension provided 24 community workshops, which reached more than 400 residents with education and a radon test kit.

Radon, a naturally-occurring, odorless gas, exists at high levels in La Plata County, seeping into homes through foundation flaws.

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking.

The observation of the campaign’s end is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the La Plata Room at the fairgrounds. Lunch will be provided.
