FLC golf picked back of the pack

CSU-Pueblo sweeps RMAC Preseason Golfers of the Year honors

In head coach Guy Begay and assistant coach Kermitt Barrett’s first season in that arrangement at Fort Lewis College, they’ll have a big hill to climb to reach the top of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

The FLC men’s golf program was picked to finish eighth out of 10 teams.

The FLC women’s golf program was picked to finish 11th out of 12 teams in its first year as a varsity program.

CSU-Pueblo swept the RMAC Preseason Golfers of the Year honors. Matt Porter was the men’s vote-winner, while Leina Kim was the women’s vote-winner.

Western New Mexico was picked by the coaches to win the men’s division, while Kim and CSU-Pueblo were picked to win the women’s division.

UC-Colorado Springs, Porter and CSU-Pueblo, Colorado Christian and Colorado Mines were picked to finish two through five, respectively. Colorado Mesa and Regis were picked to finish ahead of FLC, which was flanked by Adams State and South Dakota Mines.

Western N.M. received seven first-place votes and 73 total points. UC-Colorado Springs received a first-place vote and 64 total points, while Colorado Christian and Colorado Mines also received a first-place vote.

Colorado Mesa, Western N.M., Metro State and Regis were picked to follow CSU-Pueblo in the women’s standings, while Colorado Christian, UC-Colorado Springs, Adams State, Black Hills State and Chadron State were picked to finish ahead of FLC. South Dakota Mines was picked to finish last in the women’s standings.

CSU-Pueblo received eight first-place votes and 113 total points, while Metro State received a pair of first-place votes, and Regis and Western N.M. each received a first-place vote, as well.

John Ahern of Colorado Mines, Jacob Allenback of CSU-Pueblo, Steven DaSilva of Regis and Ben Skinner joined Porter on the men’s Preseason All-RMAC Team.

Nathalie Gallacher of Metro State, Adrianna Grijalva of Western N.M., Nicole Hulbert of Regis and Julie Sanchez of CSU-Pueblo joined Kim on the women’s Preseason All-RMAC Team.
