DHS follows shutout with a draw at Fort Lupton

After opening its regular season with a 4-0 shutout Thursday at Englewood, the Durango High School boys soccer team played Fort Lupton to a 1-1 draw Friday on the Blue Devils’ home pitch.

Fort Lupton scored first just more than 25 minutes into the game, but the DHS Demons answered when senior captain midfielder Tony Williams scored on an assist from Adian Aggler just before the end of the first half.

“It was a really good goal at a big time for us. We withstood some tension on the field and fought to get the goal,” DHS head coach Dalon Parker said.

Parker said his player of the match was senior goalkeeper Lars Schwaebe.

“I don’t know how many saves he made, but he made a whole bunch,” Parker said.

The tie was the Blue Devils’ third this season. They’re 1-0-3 on the year.

The two teams played scoreless soccer through the second half and two overtimes.

Thursday night’s game was a goal-scoring frenzy for the Demons, who received two goals from freshman Elijah Fenton and goals from Adian Aggler and Blake McClain.

DHS (1-0-1) will play its third game in as many days to start the season at noon Saturday at Northglenn.

“It takes a ton out of the boys to play two games in two days. Asking them to play a tripleheader is taking a lot out of them when you add it to school and homework,” Parker said. “But we are a fit team with a lot of players. The guys are all coming together, and it is fun to watch.

“The boys are excited for (Northglenn), and we are looking to get a win and come home 2-0-1 after this trip, and we have a really good chance of doing it with how good we are this year.”
