Thrice as nice for Demons

The season-opening road trip ended on a perfect note for the Durango High School boys soccer team.

DHS (2-0-1) beat Northglenn High School 5-1 on Saturday in Northglenn.

DHS freshman Elijah Fenton opened the scoring in the seventh minute on an assist from captain Tony Williams.

Williams found the back of the net in the 45th minute with help from Mason Stetler.

Jacob Kaplon scored unassisted in the 53rd minute.

Austin Kelly assisted Nick Jernigan in the 65th minute, and Logan Graham put a bow on the victory in the 76th minute with an assist from Liefdon Pratchett.

“We’re not scoring individually. That’s big to see,” DHS head coach Dalon Parker said. “We’re helping each other and moving the ball around.”

The Demons were playing their third game in as many days against Front Range competition and didn’t lost any of them, beating Englewood and tying Fort Lupton for a 2-0-1 start to the season.

They have a plus-8 goal differential through the first three games of the season, all on the road.

“This was a huge success,” Parker said. “This is the first time I’ve seen a high school team play three games back to back to back and be successful. We never left points on the table.”

DHS will continue playing on the road, too.

The team will play St. Mary’s (Colorado Springs) at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Colorado Springs as part of the Kadet Kickoff tournament hosted by Air Academy, then will play another game in that tournament Saturday.

“It was really a confidence-booster for us coaches and players to be fit to play three games in a row at a high level,” Parker said of the weekend.
