Wolverines sting Scorpions in 3

Bayfield volleyball leans on youth in 3-0 victory over Farmington

The competition wasn’t the same as their first eight matches to start the regular season, but the result was familiar.

The Bayfield Wolverines beat Farmington 3-0 on Tuesday night at Bayfield High School to improve to 7-2. The girls volleyball team rallied behind a young lineup to win 25-9, 25-17, 25-17.

“It was a good night,” BHS head coach Terene Foutz said. “Some of our younger athletes had an opportunity to contribute,” said Foutz, who listed freshmen Kylee McCoy and Jade Pascale in the shutout.

“They contributed very well.”

Bayfield had 19 aces, led by Maddi Foutz’s seven, and 28 kills, an impressive number for a volleyball sweep.

“I’m liking that number a lot,” coach Foutz said. “If you can average 10 (kills) per set, then your offense is effective; it was a real pleasure seeing the young kids do that.”

Bayfield will host Aztec on Thursday and Monte Vista on Saturday to open Intermountain League play.
