Skyhawks searching for their goal-scorer

Regis blanks Fort Lewis women’s soccer in teams’ RMAC openers

Fort Lewis College had its scoring opportunities, but the Skyhawks just aren’t taking advantage of them.

“We had a number of opportunities,” FLC women’s soccer head coach Jimmy Hall said Friday after a 1-0 loss at Regis in Denver in both teams’ Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference openers.

“We’re OK-dangerous, we’re just not deadly.”

FLC is looking for a goal-scorer.

After 72 minutes of scoreless soccer, previously nationally ranked Regis scored on a rebound off a corner kick to take a 1-0 victory from the road team. The original corner kick was cleared back to the server, who replayed it back into the Skyhawks’ box.

Caelyn Hirschman scored the game-winning goal past FLC goalie Caityln Espinosa, who made two saves in the loss.

Jordan Hix and Jessica Singleton had two shots each to pace the Skyhawks, who were outshot 12-8 in the game, 3-2 in shots on goal.

FLC (1-3-1, 0-1 RMAC) will play New Mexico Highlands (3-1-1, 0-0-1 RMAC) at noon Sunday in Las Vegas, N.M.
