Durango regains swagger with a Central sweep

DHS next will host defending SWL champions Fruita

A short two-match losing streak ended when the Durango High School volleyball team swept Grand Junction Central on Friday in Durango.

Set scores and statistics weren’t immediately available.

“We played well. We played consistent,” DHS head coach Colleen Keresey said. “It’s nice to get our first league win under our belt.”

The Demons bounced back form a straight-sets loss to Piedra Vista on Tuesday.

Friday was the Southwestern League opener for DHS (7-3, 1-0 SWL), and they will play defending champion Fruita Monument at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at DHS.

“We don’t really know what to expect from Fruita,” Keresey said. “They were league champions last year but graduated most of their team. If we’re playing well, we think we can beat anybody.”
