Tigers take two from DHS softball

Grand Junction blitzes the Demons at Aspen Field

Grand Junction rushed the Durango Demons with a 14-0 shutout Game 1 on Friday night at Aspen Field on the Fort Lewis College campus.

Game 2 was much closer, but the Tigers swept the Southwestern League softball doubleheader with a 6-4 victory in the nightcap.

“We started chipping away, but we just didn’t have enough time,” Durango High School first-year head coach Chelsea Rodriguez said in a phone message left with The Durango Herald.

Augusta Brockus pitched Game 1 in the circle for the Demons.

“There was not much she could do,” Rodriguez said. “They were just crushing the ball.”

Camille Bisbee pitched Game 2.

“She threw a fantastic game,” Rodriguez said.

“We had some key plays made, and we had some key plays that needed to be made but weren’t.”

With seven games left on their schedule, the Demons (6-6, 0-3 SWL) will host Grand Junction Central at 10 a.m. Saturday in their home finales.

“We’re looking forward to our games (Saturday),” Rodriguez said. “It’s senior day. The girls energy is up. They’re excited. They’ve got a lot to play for. Hopefully, that turns into wins.”
