Mines falls first at Autumn Classic

FLC takes fifth in the men’s meet and sixth in women’s in Colorado Springs

Colorado Mines took the Colorado College Autumn Classic by storm Saturday in Colorado Springs.

Colorado Mines’ Phil Schneider won the men’s 8-kilometer race in 25 minutes, 38 seconds, followed in second and third by teammates Marty Andrie and Derek Alcorn, respectively.

The Orediggers won the men’s meet with 21 points and finished second only to second-ranked Adams State (20 points) on the women’s side with 61 points.

Adams State, whose men’s team is ranked No. 1 in the nation, did not run its No. 1 varsity squad Saturday in Colorado Springs.

Rachel Kresl won the women’s 6K race for the Adams State Grizzlies in 22:51.

Fort Lewis College finished fifth out of six men’s teams and sixth out of seven women’s teams.

Ryan Mott led the Skyhawks’ men’s team in 52nd place at 29:51. Zach Chenoweth was 54th in 30:04, John Booton took 59th in 30:20, Jeremy Goetee finished 68th in 31:26, Dillon Wells was 69th in 31:40, Jacob Evangelista took 70th in 31:48, and Clah Robert rounded out the Skyhawks’ squad in 73rd at 32:41.

Kristen Ascencio finished 36th for the FLC’s women’s team in 25:19. Kelsi Lawrence was 43rd in 25:36, Erin Renner took 44th in 25:39, Julia Boyd-Helm finished 76th in 27:23, Alyssa Carman was 82nd in 28:29, Kayla Jamerson took 92nd in 29:13 and Chelsea Beans-Polk finished 102nd in 30:38 for the Skyhawks.

FLC next will run at the Metro State Invitational on Saturday in Denver.
