Skyhawks swat Yellow Jackets for 1st RMAC W

Winning a volleyball match becomes worlds easier when the other team gifts you enough points to win a game.

Black Hills State committed 25 combined errors (attacking, ball handling, blocking, receiving and serving) in a 3-0 (25-14, 27-25, 26-24) loss to Fort Lewis College on Saturday at Whalen Gymnasium.

The Skyhawks held Black Hills State (3-8, 1-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) to a .025 hitting percentage in the match and made 12 team blocks.

FLC (4-8, 1-2 RMAC) needed a little help, too, hitting .175 for the match.

The Skyhawks only made eight unforced hitting errors, though, with the Yellow Jackets making 13 team blocks.

FLC senior outside hitter Ashley Wells led the team with 13 kills and also contributed 10 digs for the double-double.

Mallory Dill had an efficient day for the Skyhawks, finishing with nine kills and a .471 hitting percentage.

The Skyhawks’ two-setter attack was more balanced Saturday, with Ciara Krening picking up 23 and Kennedy Clark 16.

FLC sophomore libero Ally Dell’Amico had a team-high 22 digs of the Skyhawks’ 55.

After three consecutive home matches, FLC, 1-2 in its initial homestand, will hit the road the next two weekends, starting with a match against UC-Colorado Springs at 7 p.m. Thursday in Colorado Springs.
