Schirard has proven record; Smith has not

Duke Schirard may be a little rough around the edges. He may not be a prim and proper, but that is because he is a lawman and not a classless want-to-be career politician who needs to try and smear his opponent to keep attention away from him because, frankly, Sean Smith has nothing to say. Schirard has obviously done an amazing job in La Plata County since the 1970s. During that time, he has served as patrol deputy, jail deputy, undersheriff, Bayfield marshal and sheriff. In all those years, he has never had anything to hide. We have always known where he stands, what he believes in and what his plans for the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office are.

What do we know about Sean Smith? When asked for information regarding what his beliefs and ideas are he will lead you to a picture copy of his résumé posted on his Facebook page. All that tells me is where he has been; I want to know where he is going. What is his big picture idea of the sheriff’s office in four years if he were to unseat Sheriff Schirard? When asked, he will lead you back to the picture of his résumé. I have always been afraid of a silent politician who runs a campaign by trying to find the bad in his opponent instead of telling his voter base what his thoughts and ideas are. So I will be casting my vote for Duke Schirard because I know who he is, I know what he stands for, I know he will stand up for what he believes in and I know that he has a more-than-proven record when it comes to keeping La Plata County safe.
