FLC men’s golf sits in four-way tie for fourth

The Fort Lewis College men’s golf team competed in the first two rounds of the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men’s tournament of the season Monday at Buffalo Run Golf Club.

The Skyhawks finished the first round at 11-over-par as a team. The afternoon was a bit better, as FLC came in at 297. FLC is 20-over as a team and in a four-way tie for fourth place. The third and final round will tee off Tuesday.

“We have a few edges to sharpen and feel like we can make a move (Tuesday) to improve our finish,” FLC head coach Guy Begay said in a news release

FLC junior Dillon Washburn had the best score on the team Monday. He put together two consistent rounds to finish the first day at 3-over 147 with rounds of 74 and 73. He is tied for 15th.

Josh Woodworth, an FLC senior, carded a 79 in the morning but shot an even-par 72 in the afternoon to get to 7-over 151. Lucas Laudick, a junior, also was consistent with a 75 and 77 to get to 8-over 152 for the Skyhawks.

FLC sophomore and Durango High School alumnus Michael Thomas had the best single round of the day for the Skyhawks with a 1-under 71 in the morning, but he struggled in the afternoon and shot 10-over 82. He is 9-over par.

FLC freshman Ryan Tanner had a two-rund score of 16-over 160 after rounds of 85 and 75.
