Skyhawks make change in Commerce City

Washburn leads FLC men’s golf team to a 6th-place finish

Dillon Washburn was consistent, and Fort Lewis College consistently improved at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Event No. 1, held Monday and Tuesday at Buffalo Run Golf Course in Commerce City.

Washburn shot 74-73-73–220 to finish 12th overall.

FLC shot 299-297-294–890 to finish sixth overall.

“After another round, we bettered our score again,” FLC head coach Guy Begay said. “This team is improving each week, and now we got a little momentum. After some much-needed rest this week, we’ll get back to work and prepare for the Division I tournament in Phoenix and really test our skills against the next level.”

Lucas Laudick finished second for FLC, tied for 24th, then was followed by teammates Josh Woodworth (31st), Michael Thomas (39th) and Ryan Tanner (42nd).

Andrew Kennedy of Colorado Christian won the tournament at 7-under par 209.

UC-Colorado Springs won the team title with an 872.

FLC next will play the University of Wyoming Cowboy Southern Dunes Invitational on Oct. 4-5 in Maricopa, Arizona.
