Memorial for railroad buff to be held

The public is invited to a remembrance of life for John Bredfeld, a Durango resident and long-time railroad buff and model railroad builder, on Friday at the grange, a metal building behind the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad station.

The gathering, from 3 to 5 p.m., was organized by family members who have scheduled a private observance aboard a D&SNGR run to Silverton and a visit to the railroad museum there.

George Niederauer, president of the Durango Railroad Historical Society, is gathering anecdotes related to Bredfeld from fellow society members to present to the Bredfeld family.

Bredfeld died April 10 at age 81. He contributed hours to the restoration of Engine 315, which was built in Philadelphia in 1895 and saw 54 years of service and many owners before becoming the property of the Durango Railroad Historical Society.
