Chapman ice rink opens Saturday

To many the signs of the change of seasons is not found in tree leafs, but rather when ice making begins at Chapman Hill. Recreation supervisor Matt Morrissey operates the Zamboni on the skate surface Monday to begin ice-making operations.

Chapman Hill Ice Rink will open for the season on Saturday, the city of Durango announced in a news release.

To bring on the season, the annual Hockey Day celebration – which includes a gear swap and free barbecue – will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Gear at the swap will be free; those wishing to sell must do it on their own at the swap.

The day is sponsored by Durango Parks and Recreation Department and the Durango Area Youth Hockey Association.

Visit www.durangogov.org/chapmanhill for more information on schedule and admission prices for ice skating.

Chapman Hill also offers a ski run that will open as conditions allow later in the fall or winter. Snowmaking is used to complement the natural snowfall.

For more information, call Chapman Hill at 375-7395 or email CJ Fuss at cj.fuss@durangogov.org.
