Gun club offers sighting help with rifles

The Durango Gun Club and La Plata Electric Association are teaming up to bring “Sight-in Days” to the general public and local hunters on several dates throughout October.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, including Oct. 9, 10, 16, 17, 30 and 31 at the Durango Gun Club Outdoor Range, along La Posta Road (County Road 213). The event is free; although donations are accepted.

“Our goal is to provide a place to come and sight rifles,” said Joseph Perino, Durango Gun Club secretary and treasurer. “It’s a very relaxed, but very controlled, safe environment.”

The partnership with LPEA and the gun club aims to discourage hunters from shooting at electrical equipment in order to test scopes.

“It’s to everyone’s benefit that hunters not take aim at expensive electrical equipment. Just like an animal, when you shoot it, it stops functioning, and your neighbors’ electricity will be cut off,” said Justin Talbot, LPEA interim manager of operations.

Durango Gun Club staff and volunteer club members will be present to assist attendants should any questions arise, or if a minor repair needs to take place.

For more information, call Joseph Perino at 749-3453, or call LPEA at 247- 5786.
