Scott Tipton wasted years of hard work

During a number of years, scores of people with very divergent interests spent hundreds of hours hammering out a compromise agreement, which culminated in the Hermosa Creek Watershed Protection Act. It was supported by a diverse coalition of interested parties and was hailed as an outstanding example of bipartisan cooperation to protect a valuable natural resource. U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton and U.S. Sen. Mark Udall were widely hailed as instrumental in introducing this bipartisan legislation for the benefit of Southwest Colorado. Both had input in the final versions of the bill that was to be introduced into both chambers.

Then, at the last minute, Rep. Tipton added an amendment to greatly weaken the bill for the benefit of certain commercial interests. Years of work and good-faith cooperation have been wasted. It’s a shame.
