A pair of YAFL teams near perfection

Second- and sixth-graders remain undefeated with shutouts

With one final regular-season game to play, a pair of Durango Youth American Football League teams will be playing for undefeated seasons.

The second-grade Durango Demons beat Bloomfield 26-0 on Saturday to improve to 6-0, and they will host the Aztec Tigers at 1 p.m. Saturday at Miller Middle School in their regular-season finale.

The sixth-grade Durango Demons beat the Kirtland Broncos 64-0 on Saturday to improve to 7-0, and they will play at Bloomfield at 11 a.m. Saturday in their regular-season finale.

Cully Feeney and Cole Pontine both rushed for a pair of touchdowns for the second-graders, and Malakai Baker added a pair of extra points, also on the ground.

Jordan Woolverton had two touchdown passes, one receiving, and an extra point passing in the first half for the sixth-graders. Gage Mestas had a touchdown catch, Haezen Mestas rushed for an extra point, and Niko Mestas had a touchdown pass and a kick return for a touchdown.

Shane Baruch and Killian Gwinn each ran for extra points, Tanner Dukart caught an extra point, Matt Eckert had a rushing touchdown, Kyler Reimers had a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown, and Cal Walsh had a rushing touchdown.

Thomas Barnes had a safety, and Ty Martinez had an interception return for a touchdown in the Demons’ rout.

The fifth-grade Durango Demons beat Farmington 38-0 and will host Shiprock on Saturday at Miller Middle School in their regular-season finale.

The fourth-grade Durango Demons beat the Kirtland Broncos 13-6 and will finish their regular season on the road at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bloomfield.

The third-grade Durango Demons lost 33-12 to Bayfield. Tyler Harms had 95 yards rushing and a touchdown, and Brett Hamer had 60 yards rushing and a touchdown in the loss. The Demons will finish their regular season on the road at 9 a.m. Saturday at Cortez.
