Winless Western pushes FLC to five games in Gunnison

Game 1 was competitive.

Game 2 was not.

Game 3 was surprising.

The fourth was flip-flopped from the second game.

FLC won it in five.

Fort Lewis College, with one win in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, beat winless Western State (0-7) 26-24, 25-15, 18-25, 15-25, 15-12 on Friday night in Gunnison to become a two-win team (2-5) in the RMAC.

After a 10-point victory in the second game, it appeared the Skyhawks would cruise to victory against the now 0-11 Mountaineers. But the 5-10 Skyhawks had to win it the hard way.

Ashley Wells led FLC with 18 kills on 41 attacks.

Heather Danny returned to the lineup with 19 assists, and Ciara Krening had 17 assists.

Ally Dell’Amico led FLC with 26 digs.

Taylor Castillo led Western State with 18 kills, and Jordan Eatwell and Crystal Powell had 13 each.

Tepora Su’a had a match-high 49 assists in the loss, and Morgan Stansberry led three Mountaineers in double-digit digs with 21.
