Getting cold? Warming trend starts today

Yes, it was cold Monday morning in Durango and environs.

The official low, at the Durango-La Plata County Airport, was 28 degrees, said Jim Pringle, warning coordination meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.

An official cooperative weather station eight miles from Ignacio recorded 24 degrees, Pringle said. Cooperative weather stations are manned by volunteers who use National Weather Service equipment.

The overnight low Sunday night at the Cortez Airport was 32.

”If anyone has a garden, it probably suffered,” Pringle said.

A cold front from the northwest, accompanied by gusty winds, that moved through the region brought the cooler temperatures, Pringle said.

Gusts reached 40 to 50 mph at the airport, he said.

The highs today could be near 70 degrees, Pringle said.

“There will be a gradual warming trend,” he said.
