Homecoming comeback falls short at Whalen Gym

FLC volleyball loses its 4th consecutive match

A comeback wasn’t in the cards for the Fort Lewis College volleyball team against Adams State on Friday in Whalen Gymnasium.

The Grizzlies jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Skyhawks clawed back, forcing a decisive fifth set.

FLC (5-15, 2-10 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) fought off four match points in the fifth set before a Leah Nelson kill ended it for the Grizzlies 3-2 (25-19, 25-22, 18-25, 19-25, 15-13).

Ashley Wells led the Skyhawks with a monster 20-kill, 18-dig double-double. Wells was one of three FLC players with double-digit kills:

Emily Dellenbach had 13.

Mallory Dill had 12.

Lindsey Stindt led four Grizzlies in double digits with 17 kills.

FLC outhit Adams State .200 to .183 and served six aces.

Heather Danny and Ciara Krening split setting duties for the Skyhawks. Danny led the team with 32 assists, and Krening had 21.

The Skyhawks now have lost four in a row. They have a week before their next match, a 7 p.m. Friday show with Western State in Whalen Gymnasium. FLC will host CSU-Pueblo at 7 p.m. the next night.

FLC, 1-4 at Whalen Gym this season, will host three out of its final six final regular-season matches, all RMAC matches.
