I count myself fortunate to have been elected a La Plata County commissioner for 12 years, and in those three terms, I was best known as being pretty miserable when it came to spending taxpayer dollars.

I still believe that local tax revenues should be utilized in the most efficient manner possible, and for that reason, I think Bobby Lieb is the wisest choice for county treasurer by a country mile. You get a pretty good handle on the ins and outs of most county departments as a commissioner, and Bobby has been through that experience.

On-the-job training can be a time-consuming, expensive way to learn the ropes as treasurer. This is a nonpolitical elected position; it is performance-oriented and is of the very essence of “bang for the buck” of your tax dollars.

I also still think, as I have for years, that government can learn critical lessons from the private sector in providing services, but the two are different animals, with different goals and responsibilities. Bobby Lieb makes pretty good sense as your choice for La Plata County treasurer – that is, if you care how your tax dollars are being handled!
