India, unposed

In the summer of 2013, Craig Semetko was one of 10 photographers worldwide invited by Leica Camera to take part in an exhibition celebrating its 100-year anniversary. Semetko ended up spending the fall traveling through India for the project. He came back with a collection of images that captured the people, history, modern trappings and cultural icons of the vast and vibrant country. The work, “India Unposed,” is coming to Durango’s Open Shutter Gallery, 735 Main Ave., this week. The show will open Wednesday with a reception from 5-8 p.m. at the gallery. “Visually, it is a photographer’s dream,” the photographer said of India. “I was inspired every time I walked out the door. I wanted to see something different than the U.S., and believe me, I did.”
