County Road 309A to reopen tonight

Crews worked Monday night and through the day today to unearth and remove a natural-gas pipeline that ruptured south of the Durango-La Plata County Airport, according to a La Plata County news release.

County Road 309A was expected to be reopened tonight, the release said.

Williams Four Corners Gas Co. and the La Plata County Office of Emergency Management executed an emergency shutdown Monday afternoon amidst suspicion of a gas leak in the 3600 block of County Road 309A, No evacuations were made.

The leak was located about 4,000 feet north of County Road 310, and company personnel on scene were able to relieve pressure from the gas line.

Commuters using County Road 309A were advised to seek alternate routes while this emergency closure is in effect.

Motorists wishing to access the Durango-La Plata County Airport cannot access the airport from County Roads 310 and 318 and must access by way of Colorado Highway 172.
