Vet benefit program extended

The Veterans Administration has extended a program to provide assisted-living services to veterans with traumatic brain injuries.

The program, which was set to expire this year, gives service providers until Oct. 6, 2017, to apply.

Special services provided in the private sector enhance quality of life, rehabilitation and integration into the community, the VA said. Help may involve team-based care for speech, memory and mobility problems.

About 187 veterans in 46 facilities in 22 states were involved in the pilot study. Currently 94 veterans are being treated.
