Improvements planned for downtown intersection

Downtown improvements are in the foreseeable future.

The city of Durango was awarded a New Freedom Program grant for $503,000 by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration to implement safety, accessibility and connectivity improvements to the East Second Avenue and 15th Street intersection and surrounding areas, according to a Durango Business Improvement District news release.

A public meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. tonight in City Council Chambers at City Hall, 949 East Second Ave., to discuss the project and construction impacts.

The project is scheduled to begin Monday and is expected to last nearly two months, the release said.

Commuters should observe slower traffic and road closures throughout the duration of the project.

Contact Amber Blake, the city of Durango multi-modal administrator, at 375-4949, for more information.
