Colorado energy use recognized

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy has ranked Colorado top among six Southwestern states and 13th nationally for energy efficiency in 2014.

The scorecard measures progress on a variety of energy-efficient efforts, among them utility programs and policies, transportation policies, codes for buildings and state government initiatives.

Nationally, Colorado moved up three positions from its 16th place finish in 2013. The jump in ranking was due in part to promote electric vehicles and more efficient transportation of freight.

The national scorecard for 2014 found the other Southwest states trailing Colorado – Arizona, 15; Utah, 23; New Mexico, 25; Nevada, 29; and Wyoming, 50.
