Durango still tops on lists

Maile King, left, Susannah Standal, center, and Dolores Overton – known popularly as The Durango Divas – make a Diva Cherry Bomb during the 34th Snowdown Bartender's Contest in 2012 at Moe’s. Snowdown’s “wacky” contests were one of the reasons Liftopia.com selected Durango as one of the Top 10 Most Livable North American Ski Towns Year-Round.

Durango keeps making admiring lists, and this week, it made two in two days, which may be a record – even for us.

Liftopia polled “ski bums” to identify North America’s 10 Most Livable Ski Towns Year-Round, and Durango made the list.

“Welcome to the ‘graduated’ ski bum life, the one that affords year-round adventure with a nod to your responsible side,” said reporter Gina Bégin at www.liftopia.com.

Joining Durango on the list, which ranked towns in alphabetical order, are Alta, Utah; Banff, Alberta, Canada; Killington, Vermont; Lake Placid, New York; Nelson, British Columbia; North Conway, New Hampshire; Revelstoke, British Columbia; Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges, Quebec; and Whitefish, Montana.

Meanwhile, visitors to www.tripstodiscover.com will find Durango at No. 2 on the list of 20 Colorado Mountain Towns that are Paradise in the Winter. Aspen came in at No. 1, and joining Durango in the top five are Estes Park, Ouray and Silverton.
