Resident in stable condition
Sgt. Bobby Taylor, left, with the Durango Police Department, and Emergency Medical Services supervisor Dave Fiddler, with the Durango Fire Protection District, talk to a man on Tuesday evening at the Huck Finn Exxon, 1517 Florida Road, after a shooting took place near East Third Avenue and 32nd Street. Taylor said a 19-year-old male was shot in the hip, and a group stopped at the gas station to call 911.

Durango police responded to a report at about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday that someone was shot in the hip in north Durango near 32nd Street.

“I can confirm that it was a 19-year-old Durango resident who was shot,” Durango Police Department Lt. Ray Shupe said at about 9 p.m. “As far as I know, he was in stable condition.”

At the Huck Finn Exxon, 1517 Florida Road, Sgt. Bobby Taylor, with the Durango Police Department, told a photographer with The Durango Herald that a group of people, including the man who was shot, drove to the Exxon and called 911 to report the shooting.

Taylor said the shooting occurred “across town,” and police had roped off East Third Avenue near 32nd Street by 8 p.m.

“A white Grand Am was seen leaving the scene,” Shupe said, “but that’s all we know right now. We’re still interviewing witnesses to find out what happened.”

Shupe could not release the name of the shooting victim until next of kin are identified. He did not anticipate having any additional information until this morning.
