FLC puts two on All-RMAC roster

Colorado Mines’ setter is the RMAC Player of the Year

As the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament served up four quarterfinals Tuesday in three different RMAC cities, the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks received RMAC news from home – not one of those RMAC cities hosting an RMAC Tournament game.

The league announced its All-RMAC teams Tuesday, and the Skyhawks had two players on the three teams: FLC senior outside hitter Ashley Wells was named to the second team, while FLC sophomore libero Ally Dell’Amico was an honorable mention.

FLC finished its season 8-18 overall and 5-13 in the conference, third from the bottom and three wins from qualifying for the RMAC Tournament.

Wells ranked ninth in the RMAC in kills with 319 in 26 matches, 3.18 kills per set. She ranked 18th in digs, with 317 in 26, 3.17 digs per set. Wells was named to her second consecutive All-RMAC team, voted on by the conference coaches.

Dell’Amico played in every set for the Skyhawks this season. Her 4.86 digs per set (501) ranked fifth in the RMAC, and her 29 aces (.28 aces per set) ranked 10th in the RMAC.

Danielle Johnson-Hazelwood, a junior setter from Cypress, Texas, and Colorado School of Mines, was named the RMAC Player and Setter of the Year.

Mallory Grimsrud, an honorable mention from Adams State, was named the RMAC Freshman of the Year.

Oni Lattin, a middle blocker and right-side hitter from Houston, Texas, and CSU-Pueblo, was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

Dave Fleming of Colorado Mesa was named RMAC Coach of the Year. Fleming and the Mavericks finished the regular season 24-3 overall and 17-1 in the RMAC, tied with Colorado Mines but a half-game better in overall record. Colorado Mesa is ranked eighth in the nation.
