Powerful piano and classical music to meet on stage

Pianist Marilyn Mangold Garst will perform a recital today.

Durango pianist Marilyn Mangold Garst will perform a program of classical music from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries at 7 p.m. today during the second installation of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Recital Series.

The Fellowship is at 419 San Juan Drive. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under and students.

Garst will play selections from Mozart, Schumann, Debussy and Papandopulo. The recital will open with Mozart’s powerful “Fantasia in C Minor, KV 475” before continuing to Schuman’s grand Romantic sonata “Faschingsschwank aus Wien.” Garst will also perform three Debussy pieces from Book I of “Images,” and will end with four selections from little-known Croatian composer Boris Papandopulo.

Garst, the music director at the Unitarian Universalist and recital series founder, is a former professor who taught piano, harpsichord and keyboard at George Washington University for 25 years.
