Durango Swim Club seniors split with Albuquerque, Montrose

The first two weekends in November sent Durango Swim Club athletes as far south as Albuquerque and north as Montrose.

DSC’s 16 senior athletes went to the Lobo Holiday Classic on Nov. 7-9 at the University of New Mexico.

Haley Benjamin (14) finished first in four of her seven events, winning the 500-yard freestyle in 5 minutes, 9.14 seconds, the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:31.16, the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:42.99 and the 400-yard individual medley in 4:39.52. She also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.05 and the 200-yard butterfly in 2:13.86.

Anne Mummery (16) took fourth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:04.05 and the 200-yard freestyle in 2:03.18.

Maggie Holcomb (9) swam above her age group and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:47.27.

Mira Joyner (15) finished sixth in the 100-yard backstoke and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle.

Quinn Schmidt (11) was seventh in the 500-yard freestyle.

Mina Willemin (12) finished seventh in the 50-yard butterfly.

Iain McCourt (14) was eighth in the 500-yard freestyle.

McKenzie Rion (10) attended both of the weekend’s meets. She finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in Albuquerque in 45.89 seconds and took fourth in the 100-meter backstroke at the Montrose Marlins’ meet in 1:56.93.

Also in Montrose, Jessica Bowman (13) took second in the 800-meter freestyle in 13:04.94.

Kaizer Lile (6) finished fourth in the 25-yard backstroke and fifth in the 25-yard freestyle.

Zada Lile, her younger sister, was seventh in the 25-yard backstoke and eighth in the 50-yard backstroke.

The DSC will head to the High Desert Classic this weekend in Albuquerque.
