Wolverines have eight on all-conference teams

Zane Phelps rushed for 1,195 yards, finished the 2014 football season with 211 receiving yards, and the Bayfield High School junior scored 15 touchdowns. He was named to the All-Western Slope South League first team, along with BHS seniors Aubry Brown, Colter McMenimen and Zane Westbrook.

Four Bayfield High School football players were named All-Western Slope South League, and four others received honorable mentions.

BHS seniors Aubry Brown, Colter McMenimen and Zane Westbrook and junior Zane Phelps made the first team.

Brown and Westbrook manned both lines for the Wolverines all season, while Phelps led the team with 1,195 rushing yards, 211 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. Defensively, he led the team with six sacks and made 25 solo tackles.

McMenimen chipped in 378 yards rushing and 46 yards receiving with four touchdowns on the offensive end, while adding four interceptions on defense.

Taed Heydinger, Kyle Killough, Noah Loutherback and Brody McGhehey received honorable mention from the league.

Heydinger caught 11 passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns and had an interception defensively.

Killough led the team with 82 tackles and recorded a safety.

McGhehey scored 11 touchdowns with nearly 600 total yards, and Loutherback played strong across both lines.

The Wolverines also held their team awards recently.

McMenimen was named the Bayfield Wolverines’ MVP and Best Defensive Back.

Brown was picked as the Best Offensive Lineman, and Westbrook earned the honor of Best Defensive Lineman.

Killough won Best Linebacker, and Phelps was the Best Offensive Back.

Heydinger took home Best Receiver/Slot Back.

Cash Snooks and Sam Westbrook were the most improved players on defense and offense, respectively.

Carl Heide won the Scout Team Player of the Year, and Henry Walter had the Best Attitude.

Killough, Kelton McCoy, McMenimen and Frankie Turner were named First Team Academic All-State, and Blane Barnes, Brown Heydinger and Matias Karhmaki received honorable mention.
