Durango to be celebrating cycling

Among the area’s champions in 2014 was Griffin Easter of Fort Lewis College, who won the 68-mile Division I USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships in 2 hours, 42 minutes, 51 seconds on May 4 in Richmond, Va.

Each year Durango seems to garner championships from the professional to the college to the high school levels, and this year was no exception.

On Wednesday, the city will honor its cycling champions and support both Durango DEVO and the Fort Lewis College cycling program at the Community Cycling Celebration.

The annual get-together goes from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Carver Brewing Co., 1022 Main Ave. A presentation highlighting the area’s champions of 2014 will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Carver’s back patio.

One dollar from every beer and root beer purchased will be donated to Durango DEVO and Fort Lewis cycling. Complimentary appetizers will be served.
