Wondering why your city water is cloudy?

Utility workers simply flushing our system Friday
Water flows out of a tap at one of the bathrooms at El Moro Spirits and Tavern last year. Water may appear cloudy as the city flushes the water system Friday, which could take several days.

City water might appear cloudy Friday, as the city utilities department flushes the drinking-water system.

The flushing process is part of regular maintenance. It removes sediment or stagnant water from the system by moving large volumes of water through the water main pipes.

The maintenance is done neighborhood by neighborhood, and flushing the entire system will take several days.

The cloudy water remains safe to drink. However, customers who experience cloudy water are advised to turn off their faucets, wait an hour, and then run water through their faucet for 15 to 20 minutes to clear any residual cloudiness. If the water remains cloudy, call the utilities department at 375-4801.

If it doesn’t snow or freeze, the city will finish Friday.
