City takes comment on trail closures

Some local trails may be closed, and others may be realigned, but that’s open to debate. Many of those being considered for closure are some of the steepest, most challenging areas that are prone to erosion.

A few days remain if you have something to say about the possible permanent closure of certain trails in Dalla Mountain Park, Horse Gulch and Overend Park.

Some of the trails may be closed, and others may be realigned. Many of those being considered for closure are some of the steepest, most challenging areas that are prone to erosion.

Mountain bikers who enjoy the challenging trails have voiced opposition to the closure of some of these trails. But others would like to see erosion prevented.

Comments submitted by Dec. 19 will be sent to members of the Parks and Recreation and the Natural Lands Preservation advisory boards for consideration. Email comments to rec@durangogov.org.

Both boards will meet to discuss this topic at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Durango Community Recreation Center. But the meeting will not accept public comment.
