Testing is not influential, inspiring

Think back. Who were the most influential and inspiring teachers you remember? I’ll bet you remember the ones that gave you test after test. But I’ll place bets they are not the ones that inspired you. It’s different for everyone and, for me, it was a teacher who fought the tide of conformity and taught with a passion we rarely see in any profession.

He taught about life through history and had a zeal that one could not help but notice. This had nothing to do with dates and standards but understanding the principles. We, as parents, community members, teachers and administrators need to encourage this. Are we training and paying teachers to teach and inspire or test. I know what I want my money and kids doing. What about you?
