Molas, Coal Bank restrooms in limbo

San Juan County and the U.S. Forest Service are looking for a way to keep the public restrooms open on Coal Bank and Molas passes.

The county took over the job last year after the federal agency said it would demolish them if no one stepped up to do the job.

Now, county money has run out, but county officials say no restrooms would create a public health disaster.

County officials say a Silverton couple will do the job in exchange for operating a food concession at Molas Pass.

We’ll have to get back to you on that, the Forest Service has responded. So there it stands.
