A sweet 13 for the PPL

DHS football stars honored

One year into the new Class 4A Pikes Peak League, and the Durango High School football team saw plenty of players recognized for their performances.

In all, 13 Demons were selected to All-Pikes Peak League teams, with five players being selected to the first team.

On the first team are senior defensive end and fullback Patrick Cunnion, senior cornerback Erik Gonzales, junior quarterback Terrence Trujillo and junior linemen Laitham Johnson and Jack Madden.

Selected to the second team were senior punter, wide receiver and defensive back Casey Dunlap, senior defensive back Matthew Lavengood, junior running back and linebacker Lawrence Mayberry and junior guard and defensive tackle Sterling Worley.

Making the honorable mention list are junior wide receiver Lucas Baken, junior linebacker Diego Arias Medrano, senior defensive end and tight end Dayne Rowley and senior running back and safety Steele Spies.

The Demons finished the 2014 season 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the newly created Pikes Peak League, which features two-time defending state champion Pine Creek, which had Class 4A Player of the Year Joshua Odom at running back.

Also in the Pikes Peak League is Air Academy, Liberty, Palmer Ridge, and Rampart. The Demons finished in fourth out of the six teams in the league.
