DHS boys find balanced intensity in Pagosa

The holiday break may have been just what the Durango High School boys basketball offense needed.

DHS scored its most points since the season opener in a 54-46 win at Pagosa Springs on Tuesday night.

Five players scored more than five points led by Caleb Kennedy with 12 and Scott Morse with 10 in double figures.

“A lot of balanced scoring,” DHS head coach Alan Batiste said.

The Demons (4-5) actually trailed by two going into the fourth quarter but scored more than 20 in the last frame to lock down their first road win of the season.

“The intensity, we turned up in that fourth quarter. That helped us win the game,” Batiste said. “Excellent on the ball defense that Lucas Baken played helped us out with some turnovers. They turned the ball over, and we got some easy buckets.”

DHS next will face Ignacio at 7 p.m. Thursday in Whalen Gymnasium on the campus of Fort Lewis College.

The Demons will be looking to avenge a 64-42 home loss from last season.
