Big Picture students at DHS all week

Paul Schwarm of Servpro vacuums inside the building that houses Durango Big Picture High School and The Liberty School after melted snow and ice on the roof made its way inside Jan. 7. Big Picture will continue holding classes at Durango High School through the week.

Big Picture High School students will attend classes at Durango High School for the remainder of the week after its classrooms were closed Jan. 7 because of a major leak.

Durango School District 9-R announced the decision Wednesday evening, saying the required repairs and cleanup would take at least through Friday. The leak occurred after a drainpipe was blocked, and melting snow flooded both the Big Picture School and The Liberty School.

“The situation and cleanup at the school will continue to be assessed to help the school make determinations on the school schedule moving forward,” said Julie Popp, 9-R’s spokeswoman.

The school district planned a parent information meeting for Thursday evening to update families on the details of the leak and the repairs.
