Final open house on airport plan Wednesday night

Commission preparing to make recommendation
An open house to review three possible options for upgrading the Durango-La Plata County Airport will be presented Wednesday night at the Durango Transit Center.

The Durango-La Plata County Airport is holding its final public open house from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday to review three possible options detailed in the Airport Master Plan.

For several months, the airport has been presenting options to help it better handle flights already serving the airport and prepare for expected future growth. This is the last chance the public will have to comment before decision makers determine which alternative to recommend.

Information gathered at the open house will be added to other input already collected from the Durango-La Plata County Airport Commission, airport user focus groups, surveys and other open houses. It will be presented to the commission at a special meeting Thursday. The commission is expected to review the plan in detail and make a recommendation of which option to pursue to a joint study session of the La Plata County commissioners and the Durango City Council scheduled for Feb. 10

“After weighing the input received from each of these entities,” the airport said in its supporting materials for the commission meeting, “the joint bodies will then be asked to provide some type of guidance as to how the airport should proceed concerning a preferred alternative.”
